Sara Hildénin taidemuseossa Tampereella on mielenkiintoinen näyttely Erik Enrothin (1917-1975) koko tuotannosta. Suhtauduin näyttelyyn hieman varauksellisesti. Erik Enroth oli varakkaan, paljon itseään vanhemman liikenaisen ja taidekeräilijän puoliso vuodesta 1949. Sara Hildén rahoitti miehensä taideharrastuksen, hankki työtilat ja kustansi laajaa matkustelua Amerikkaan ja Etelä-Eurooppaan. Avioerossa koko Erik Enrothin tuotanto jäi Sara Hildénille ja oli perusta Tampereelle perustetun nykytaiteen museon kokoelmille.
Näyttelyn perusteella Erik Enroth oli muutakin kuin Sara Hildénin suojatti. Etenkin jokapäiväistä elämää kuvaavat työt, asetelmat, kukat ja muotokuvat ovat hienoja tulkintoja aikakauden ekspressiivisestä maalaustyylistä. Upeita värejä: hehkuvaa sinistä, punaista ja keltaista. Isot ja varmaan aikanaan rohkeat versiot eläinruhoista, tehdastyöläisistä, jääkiekkoilijoista, flamencotanssijoista, sirkuksesta ja härän pääkalloista ovat saaneet selviä vaikutteita mm. Picassolta. Enrothin luonnoskirjat ja piirustukset mm. toisen maailmansodan rintamalta ovat taidokkaita, niitä olisi voinut katsella enemmänkin.
At Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere there is an interesting exhibition about Erik Enroth´s (1917-1975) whole painting work. My attitude to this exhibition was a bit reserved. Erik Enroth was married to Sara Hilden from 1949, and Sara was a lot older wealthy business woman and art collector. She financed Erik Enroth´s living and working, studios and travelling in America and Southern Europe. After the divorce all Enroth´s paintings were left in Sara Hildén´ s possession and these paintings were the base material for the new contemporary art museum in Tampere.
On grounds of the exhibition Erik Enroth was much more than Sara Hildén´s protégé. Especially paintings about ordinary life: still lifes, flowers and portraits are very enjoyable and reflect the expressionist style of his time. There are gorgeous colours: glowing red, blue and yellow. His big pictures have clearly been influenced by Picasso and other famous painters of the fifties: carcases, bloody bull´s head, flamenco dancers, factory workers, ice hockey players and circus workers. His sketch books and drawings of the travels and Word War II front line are skilfull and I could have watched them more than now is on display.
