Kissakorttien kokoelmasta: 23 / From Cat Card Collection: 23

Sir John Tennielin (1821-1914) klassinen kuvitus Lewis Carrollin kirjaan "Liisa ihmemaassa" saa edelleen hymyn katsojan huulille. Cheshire-kissa puussa hymyilee suorastaan luonnottoman leveästi eikä ihan hyväntahtoisesti. Kukaan ei myöhemmin ole pystynyt tekemään osuvampaa kuvaa Liisan kohtaamasta kissasta. Tässä kissa on vielä kokonaisen, mutta kirjassa se vähitellen katoaa niin, että lopuksi jäljelle jää vain leveä hymy. Wikipedian mukaan Carrollin Cheshire-kissan esikuvana on ollut Cranleghin kirkossa oleva keskiaikainen kissan pää-veistos.

Olen vuosien aikana kerännyt aikamoisen määrän kissakortteja. Museoiden kaupat ovat oikeita aarreaittoja kissakorttien kerääjälle. Useat korteistani ovat taidekortteja.

Sir John Tenniel´s (1821-1914)  classic illustration for Lewis Carroll´s book "Alice´s Advendures in Wonderland" makes the spectator to smile. The Cheshire cat in the tree smiles downright unnaturally broadly and not very kindly. Nobody has later managed to make a more apt picture of this cat that Alice meets in the woods. This cat is still a whole cat, but in the book it gradually disappears so that finally there remains only the broad smile. Carroll`s model for the Cheshire cat was according Wikipedia a Medieval cat sculpture in a church in Cranleigh.

 

I have collected quite a large number of cat cards over decades. Museum shops are 

treasure-troves for a cat card collector. Several of my cat cads are art cards.
