POTOKO

Suomen joulukuu on tänä vuonna ollut entistäkin pimeämpi ja synkempi. Matka Kanarian aurinkoon auttaa. Vietin pari viikkoa tutussa Lopesan-hotellissa Gran Kanarialla. Kaikissa hotellin noin 1.000 huoneessa on seinällä ainakin kaksi aika kivan näköistä grafiikan työtä. Aiheena ovat Kanarian vuoret, palmut ja meri. Töissä on yhdistetty käsiteltyä valokuvaa johonkin värilliseen grafiikan lajiin (serigrafia, offset..) ja sarjat ovat aika isoja, noin 150 vedosta per kuva. Kaikkiin vedoksiin on merkitty tekijäksi POTOKO (tällaista tekijää ei Internet ainakaan tunne) ja valmistusvuodeksi 2000 (ehkä hotellin rakennusvuosi). Tänä vuonna ihmettelin toista huoneessamme ollutta taulua: mitä maanvyöryä kuva oikein esitti, kunnes huomasin sen olevan ylösalaisin. Taulun kääntäminen ei ollutkaan ihan helppoa, sillä se oli ripustettu koukkuun rengasruuvilla. Ruuvin siirto onnistui metalllisen kynsiviilan avulla, ja taulu pääsi seinälle oikein päin. Kuva esittää saaren tulivuorta ja palmuja, taivas on punainen.

December in Finland has been this year especially dark and gloomy. A trip to the Canaries helps. I spent two weeks in a familiar Lopesan hotel on Gran Canaria. In all of hotel´s about thousand rooms there are at least two quite nice graphic pictures on the wall. Subjects are the mountains of the Canary Islands, palm trees and the sea. In these pictures has been combined treated photos and some colour graphics (serigraphy, offset...) and the series are quite big, about 150 per picture. All the pictures are signed by POTOKO (at least the Internet does not know this artist) and the year of the printing is 2000 (maybe the building year of the hotel). This year I wondered one of the pictures in our room: is there some kind of mudslide in the picture, till I noticed that the picture was upside down. Turning the picture was not so easy, because it hanged by a screw on a hook. Moving the screw was managed by a metal nail file, and the picture is now the right side up on the wall. The picture shows the volcano of the island, palm trees and the sky is red.
